Illegal child labour remains rampant in India

Child employment remains widespread and an increasingly urban problem for India, despite laws against the hiring of workers below the age of 14 for jobs other than in “family-based” enterprises. On the World Day Against Child Labour, June 12, 2019, Unicef urged Indian authorities to come up with better long-term solutions to prevent the hiring of young workers rather than focusing on rescue and rehabilitation.
