Winning secret of young Taeguk Warriors at U-20 World Cup

At the FIFA Under-20 World Cup on Saturday...South Korea continued their miraculous run... knocking out Senegal on penalties.
Over the past two weeks in Poland,… South Korea have evolved from a team that looked unlikely to survive the group stage,…. to the one that has marched into the semifinals.
And Our Won Jung-hwan has more on their impressive victories.

South Korea have reached the semi-finals of the top youth tournament for the first time in 36 years,… and have the chance to make history!
In South Korea's quarter-final match, opponents Senegal opened the scoring, and although the Taeguk Warriors' ace Lee Kang-in equalized with a penalty kick, Senegal scored again to give them a 2-1 lead going into the final minutes.

South Korea were on the brink of elimination,… but defender Lee Ji-sol came to the rescue with a stoppage-time goal to level the score at 2-2. In extra time, Cho Young-wook scored to give Korea a 3-2 lead, but Senegal responded with a last-gasp goal of their own to take the match to a penalty shootout. South Korea's first two kickers missed, but they still came away with the narrow win.

Players showed resilience, scored lots of goals in second half of games

With South Korea having reached the last four in such dramatic fashion,… people are wondering what is the secret behind their success.
And head coach Chung Jung-yong said,… it's the players' resilience and never-say-die attitude.
Senegal had been regarded as a team with power and a physical edge,… who even have had an extra day of rest.
But against such disadvantages, South Korea never gave up, coming back in the second half with a different approach and mentality.
In fact, out of the 7 goals South Korea scored in their five matches at the Under-20 World Cup,… 6 of them were scored at the second half of the game.

Now, South Korea will have a chance make history by reaching the final for the first time when they take on Ecuador in Tuesday's semi-finals.
The match kicks off at Lublin Stadium in Poland at 8:30PM, or 3:30AM Wednesday Korea time, and the winners will already know whether they'll face Ukraine or Italy in the final of the Under-20 World Cup.
