U.S. officials push ahead on tariff as Mexico talks continue

The United States still plans to push ahead with its plan to impose tariffs on Mexico next Monday over the flow of undocumented migrants from Central America to the U.S.
Officials from the two sides continued talks Thursday, but they ended with the White House saying its "position has not changed" and it's "still moving forward with tariffs at this time."
There have been reports the two sides were nearing a deal as Mexico proposed a possible solution.

"We have informed the United States that in Mexico we have set up the National Guard, that it is constitutionally legal, and the National Guard can cover regions in the southern border area. We have explained that there are 6,000 men and that they will be deployed there."

The talks will resume for a third straight day on Friday.
President Trump has said he will slap 5-percent tariffs on all Mexican imports starting next week if Mexico does not completely stop the illegal flow of migrants.
