It's an exciting time for three-cushion billiards fans around the world.
South Korea's Professional Billiards Association's first league tour began today.
Kan Hyeong-woo introduces to us the event that's looked to help cement the game as a professional sport.
Three-cushion Billiards is no longer an amateur sport.... at least not on South Korea's Professional Billiards Association's league tour.
The world's first professional three-cushion billiards league officially launched with an opening ceremony on Monday.
The PBA Panasonic Open is South Korea's sixth professional sports league after baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and volleyball.
Almost 200 players from 13 countries will compete for a total prize pot of 236-thousand U.S. dollars. Taking part in the tour are some of billiards' big names like South Korea's Kang Dong-koong and Belgium's Frederic Caudron.
On the sidelines,... a living legend of billiards came to show his support and give some words of advice.
"...A good begin for the young player that they can see 'oh, we can be professional also in the future.' But it's not easy, you know to be that. Because if you have talent and you work hard, maybe a dream come true to be a professional in the future."
The PBA is moving on from the formal uniform of tuxedos and bow ties and has instead introduced more casual attire.
There will also be cheerleaders and electronic score boards to create a more exciting atmosphere for fans.
Tickets are available both online and at the venue in Ilsan, just northwest of Seoul. Every match will also be streamed live on Billiards TV's YouTube channel.
"With the first league tour of the Professional Billiards Association taking place this week,... the PBA looks to further globalize and professionalize three-cushion billiards.
