Joaquin Phoenix Quits Acting for Music

The US star, who has twice been nominated for an Academy Award, said that his latest film, Two Lovers, would be his last. "I want to take this opportunity... also to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor," he told the television program Extra. He added: "I'm not doing films anymore." Phoenix, 34, said his two-decade long acting career was now over and he would now focus his career on music. The brother of River Phoenix, who died of a drug overdose in 1993, Joaquin was nominated for an Oscar in 2006 for his portrayal of the singer Johnny Cash in the biopic Walk the Line. He was also nominated for his supporting role in Gladiator in 2000. Several Hollywood stars, including Juliette Lewis and Keanu Reeves, have parallel careers in both film and music. But few abandon acting altogether and fans of Phoenix will hope that he eventually makes a return to the big screen. Phoenix's latest film, Two Lovers, is a romantic drama in which he stars with Gwyneth Paltrow.
