Taiwan Legalizes
Same-Sex Marriage Passage of the legislation
means that Taiwan is the first
Asian country to legalize
gay marriage. The bill goes into
effect on May 24. Taiwan has a large gay
community and hosts Asia's
biggest gay pride festival. Despite this,
the issue of gay marriage
has divided the country. A November referendum
saw 67% of voters reject
same-sex marriage. Proponents of the bill call its
passage a "historic moment." Victoria Hsu, TAPCPR, via CNN
