Binge-Drinking Rates Are
on the Rise Alcohol use is
increasing worldwide. Per capita adult alcohol consumption increased by 0.7 liters between 1990 and 2017, according to a study in
The Lancet. It is predicted that by 2030, half of the world's adults will drink — up from 45% in 1990. 23% of adults are predicted to binge drink at least once per month by 2030. Binge-drinking is defined as having four or more standard drinks in one sitting. Asia saw a marked increase in drinking, while Europe saw a decrease. Jürgen Rehm, study author, via CNN
