David Frizzell began his career touring with his brother, Lefty Frizzell in the 1950s and 1960s from the age of 12. After serving as in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, Frizzell found solo success with his song "I Just Can't Help Believing" which placed in the top 40. During the 70s and 80s, Frizzell continued to become a successful country artist, reaching #1 on the US Country Charts with "I'm Gonna Hire a Wino to Decorate Our Home", and several other hits.
