Table tennis star Ryu Seung-min elected to executive committee of ITTF

The South Korean table tennis champion Ryu Seung-min has been elected to the executive committee of the International Table Tennis Federation.
Ryu won gold at the 2004 Olympics.
He was elected unanimously on Monday at the federation's annual meeting in Budapest for a term that runs through 2024.
He is the first Korean elected onto the ITTF executive committee since Han Sang-kook in 2008.
Ryu said that his election is even more meaningful because the 2020 World Table Tennis Championships will be held next year in Busan.
At the championships, he said, he will try to bring South and North Korea closer together.
