History Major League Baseball started even before the Civil War began and the game has been filled with many incredible moments! And here are the top 3 events that shaped the league into what it is:
1. Jackie Robinson breaks the Color Barrier (1947) In 1947, Robinson made his debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers, a full eight years before the recognized beginning of the
Civil Rights Movement. Robinson went on to have a hall of fame career and the class displayed by him when faced with horrendous racism helped to shape the perception of blacks in America.
2. Red Sox sell Babe Ruth to Yankees (1920) Imagine a world in which Babe Ruth was the face of the Red Sox instead of the Yankees? There would not be Murderer's Row or Babe Ruth's Called Shot or four World Series titles for Yankees between 1923 to 1932 and so many other historical events.
3. Hank Aaron's 715 (1974) Ruth's 714 was one of the first magic number in baseball history - a record deemed "unbreakable". So when the impossible materialized with Aaron's momentous home run no. 715 against Dodgers' it set off a rowdy celebration which marked a historic moment in this beautiful game.
