The South Korean military has confirmed a medium-range surface-to-air missile accidentally launched from an air base in Chuncheon , Gangwon-do Province, on Monday morning.
It exploded in the air,... it's not confirmed if it had caused any injuries or damaged property nearby.
South Korea's Air Force said it's the first time the Cheongung , also known as the Cheolmae-2, has discharged abnormally.
The Air Force says it's investigating the cause of the accident... which occurred during maintenance work... even though no one had initiated the launch.
The Cheongung has been deployed in real combat in South Korea since 2015.
In its first live-fire test in 2017, the missiles flew around 40 kilometers and successfully hit a mock target.
