South Korea's defense ministry has several meetings and events lined up this spring with its counterparts in the region.
It briefed the defense committee in the National Assembly today on those matters and others.
In May, the ministry says it'll hold its first ministerial-level meeting with China in a year and a half.
There, they'll look to improve communication and get relations back to normal after the dispute stemming from Seoul deploying the U.S. missile defense system THAAD.
Also, coming up on April 3rd, the defense ministry will take part in a ceremony to repatriate Chinese soldiers killed in the Korean War.
With Japan, meanwhile, there'll be a meeting of the two countries armies this month.
And next month, Washington will host a meeting of the South Korean and U.S. defense ministers.
In May, there'll be a three-way security meeting between the allies,... bringing Japan into the fold,... along with working-level talks.
And on the North Korea front, the South Korean defense ministry will hold working level talks with its North Korean counterpart about carrying out the joint statement from last September's summit.
Asked whether North Korea is working on its nuclear programs, Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo said that South Korea is keeping a close watch on places in the North including the Dongchang-ri missile engine testing site.
He said it's too soon to say that suspected activity there is preparation for a missile test.
