Michael Cohen Sues
Trump Organization Cohen, the previous attorney and fixer
for Donald Trump, has filed a $1.9 million
lawsuit against his former company. Cohen claims that in July of 2017, the Trump
Organization agreed to pay for his legal
representation in the coming investigations. In 2018, amid his cooperation with
the Mueller investigation, the organization
abruptly stopped paying Cohen's legal fees. This caused the firm to
cease their representation of Cohen, and has
led to $1.9 million in unreimbursed attorney fees. Cohen is now suing because
of the Trump Organization’s
“failure, without any reasonable
basis, to pay” for the legal fees. He also claims he is owed
an additional $1.9 million reimbursement
for the money he was ordered to forfeit
as part of his criminal sentencing. Cohen initially requested compensation
on January 25, 2019, but the Trump Organization
didn’t respond by the February 8 deadline. He’s scheduled to report to federal prison in May
to serve a three-year sentence for charges of
tax evasion and campaign-finance violations.
