New 'Hello Kitty' Movie to Be Made
in English for the First Time Hello Kitty, AKA Kitty White,
is a cartoon character that was
created in 1974 by Yuko Shimizu. According to 'The New York Times,'
the $6 billion franchise is licensed to
50,000 different products in 130 countries. Hello Kitty never
speaks, and contrary
to popular belief, she
is a "little girl" and
not a cat. It is unclear if she will speak in the
new film, but it will be in English nonetheless. Warner Bros. label,
New Line Cinema,
is picking up the film. They will be working with Sanrio and
FlynnPictureCo. to give Hello Kitty her
first debut outside of Japan in 45 years. According to 'The Hollywood Reporter,'
Sanrio has also granted rights for other
iconic characters to appear in the film. Shintaro Tsuji, Sanrio founder Beau Flynn, CEO of FlynnPictureCo. It is not yet known if the film will
be live-action or animated.
