Stem Cell Transplant Cures London Man of AIDS Virus The unidentified patient is the second to have ever been healed from the process. He follows American Timothy Ray Brown, who was cured of HIV 12 years ago in Germany. According to 'CBS,' the man contracted HIV back in 2003. He didn't start taking medication until nine years later when he developed Hodgkin lymphoma. He has now been in
remission for 18 months. In addition, UK officials say his immune system has been changed and now matches the donor. Medical professionals say the
transplant's success was "improbable," but they add it does offer hope for finding a more common cure
in the future.
