Supreme Court Ends 157-year-old Adult Law, creating illegal ties after marriage is no crime

Adulty has been excluded from the scope of the crime while announcing its decision on the petition filed by the Supreme Court to dismiss the legality of Section 497 of the IPC. In the verdict, Chief Justice Khanvilkar said that after marriage, a woman cannot be deprived of her sexual choice. Prior to the Supreme Court's decision, under the provision of Section 497 (Adultary) of the IPC, only men are considered to be criminals while in this case the woman has been treated as a victim.
