Goa MLA proposes bikini beaches with entry fees

Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party MLA Lavoo Mamledar has come under fire for propsoing the concept of bikni beach in Goa which will charge an entry fee. The Congress party and women's right activists have hit out at the leader for his proposal.

The remarks came a month after another MLA Sudin Dhavalikar had sought a ban on the bikini.

Mamledar said, "A beach labelled as bikini beach could be created, if we really feel that bikinis will promote tourism in Goa. There can be an enclosure and an entry fee of Rs 1,000 to 2,000 could be levied. This will not only increase tourism prospects but also generate revenue."

State Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said that he does not agree with Mamledar. He said, "It is his own opinion. I don't think wearing a bikni is a big thing ."

Goa Congress spokesperson Durgadas Kamat hit out at Mamledar for his remarks. He said, "This statements are ridiculous and are coming only after Narendra Modi came in power. We totally condemn this as these statements are tarnishing the image of Goa."
