Girl was shot dead while trying to resist rape

A 35-year-old tribal Garo woman was shot dead in front of her children in Meghalaya by members of an outlawed militant group after she resisted an alleged bid to rape her, a police officer said on Wednesday.
"The woman (name withheld) was shot dead by the (outlawed) Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) rebels after she resisted the rebels' attempt to molest and rape her late Tuesday," Lakardor Syiem, the district police chief of South Garo Hills, said.
The murder took place inside the victim's house compound at Raja Rongat village when two of the five GNLA rebels' armed with AK rifles fired at the woman's head in front of her children.
