Chennai CB CID to interrogate IPS officer Sampath Kumar and can arrest him

IPS officer G Sampath Kumar, who made a deposition before the Justice Mukul Mudgal committee claiming that state police officials had purposefully avoided investigating the match-fixing angle to the May 12, 2013 IPL tie between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, may be arrested and questioned by CB-CID, which is probing the betting racket in Chennai.

It is learnt that CB-CID chief Narinderpal Singh has written two letters to Tamil Nadu DGP K Ramanujam on Wednesday and Thursday, recommending Kumar's suspension and his custodial interrogation. "Kumar, while deposing before the commission, levelled baseless allegations against his former colleagues in the state intelligence wing as well as some senior officials in CB-CID to preempt any further action against him in the betting racket," a source in the state police said.
