The Delhi Police had to resort to mild lathicharge today after students from the Noth East protested near the Rashtrapati Bhavan demanding justice for Nido Tania - a young student who died after he was beaten with iron rods and sticks in a south Delhi market last month.

Around 50-60 students from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) were trying to walk from the Vijay Chowk towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The police has now cordoned off Vijay Chowk.

20-year-old Nido was beaten after a fight with a shopkeeper and other men in Lajpat Nagar market on January 29. Nido's friends and family say the men shouted racial slurs at him and made fun of his dyed blonde hair.
