Urban Development ministry set to intervene over Bengal 'cycle ban' - NewsX

The Ministry of Urban Development is planning to write to the government of West Bengal to reconsider its decision to ban the use of cycles on 174 thoroughfares. It will also ask the government to consider framing a policy which is people inclusive.

The ban came into effect in August with the Kolkata police citing the immense vehicular pressure on city roads and safety of cyclists as the reasons. But according to the ministry, other options like engaging experts from IIT Delhi and TERI, can be looked into to resolve traffic problems.
