Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill 2016 passed in Rajya Sabha

The much-awaited Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill 2016 has been passed in Rajya Sabha. However, there is no mention of the “surrogate mother” in the amended bill. Members of Parliament (MPs) of various opposition parties have questioned the government regarding as to why there is no clarity on what benefits would be extended to the surrogate mother.
