Women in peril

Speak Out India is a NewsX special show which debates the main news event of the day. Even as the world is celebrating International Women's Day, alarming news of rapes continue to pour in from across India. In the last 48 hours itself... 8 cases of rapes have been reported... from Rohini in Delhi, Faridabad, Shahjahanpur in UP, Sheopur and Jaspur in M.P... Nagpur in Maharashtra... and from Kota in Rajasthan. These numbers do not account for the swathes of women who are too hesitant to report their misery to anyone. The question we are asking is- Can India become a progressive state if her women remain insecure? Are women respected more in South/West India than North India? Is community policing an answer to crimes against women? We debate this on the show and try to evolve consensus among our panelists over the issue.
