UP: Panchayat forces woman to withdraw rape case - NewsX

The brutal gang rape in the capital put New Year celebrations at a low key and got our political parties clamouring for and promising harsher punishment. But the stand of a panchayat in Greater Noida adjoining the capital belies all that. Instead of action against a group of men who allegedly harassed and eve-teased a local girl, her family claims they are being pressured to withdraw their case. This panchayat comprises workers of the main opposition party, the BJP. Including the former BJP district president, state party organizer, and state youth wing president.
