Pune firing row: Maharashtra suspends six cops

Six police constables attached to Pune rural police suspended on Thursday for "vandalising private vehicles" during Tuesday's protest by farmers in Maval region. Farmers were protesting against a pipeline project for supply of water from Pavna dam to Pimpri Chinchwad Township when police opened fire leaving three persons dead. The suspension of cops has drawn condemnation from various quarters as they were suspended for vandalising private vehicles during farmers' protest. Action has now been demanded against senior policemen who ordered firing at the protesting farmers which resulted in three deaths.
