Human + AI Battle in Berlin

There’s nothing unusual about having two drivers on a race team…unless one of those drivers was a robot. At this year’s Berlin round of Formula E, Roborace invited Acronym designer Errolson Hugh and YouTuber Nick Andrew, aka AR12Gaming, to join forces with teams from the Technical University of Munich and the University of Pisa, respectively. The Human + Machine teams raced on the grounds of the Berlin Tempelhof Airport as a proof of concept of our first race season, Season Alpha, debuting in 2019.

The competition format was a time attack challenge. The quickest lap from the human and machine driver was recorded and the two times were averaged to determine the team’s final result. The team with the faster average time was declared the winner.
