Saugata Bhattacharya, Chief Economist at Axis Bank speaks to Livemint’s Shrija Agrawal on the challenges to India’s banking sector. He says that the ‘need of the hour is to have fewer and mega banks to exploit economies of scale,’ arguing that larger balance sheets are needed to absorb greater risks. Speaking on the upcoming general election, Bhattacharya says that change in political dispensations really do not worry investors. In fact, he says that “optimism is the one key word that defines India in 2019.”
