Winter’s icy grip closes fishing port

More than 100 fishing boats have been locked in ice that covers over 40 per cent of Liaodong Bay in Dalian, a port city in China’s northeastern province of Liaoning. Sea water in the bay can freeze as early as December each year due to harsh cold and winter storms. Until the spring thaw, fishing activities are impossible, and workers have little more they can than watch out for ice damage to the vessels.
