Padmavati, also known Alamelu or Alamelu Manga, is a Hindu Devi. In Sanskrit, the literal meaning of her name is ‘one who emerged from a Padma (lotus)’.

Often spelt "Padmavathi", the goddess is the consort of an avatar of Lord Vishnu who is called by the names of Shri Venkateshwara and Lord Balaji.

There are divided opinions on her identification as few believe that she is an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. The others claim that she is an avatar of Goddess Bhudevi who is the second wife of Lord Vishnu.

Prominently worshiped in South India, the most prevalent temple of this goddess is the Shri Padmavati Ammavari Temple that is situated at Tiruchanur.

According to the tradition, every pilgrim must offer reverence at this temple after visiting the famous Tirumala Venkateswara Temple.

Alike Goddess Lakshmi, this goddess also brings auspiciousness to her devotees. During the festival of Lakshmi Pooja, the divine marriage of Goddess Padmavati and Lord Venkateswara is performed in the Tirumala temple.

Among all the festivals held at Tiruchanoor, the Brahmotsavam holds utmost importance as it is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Goddess Padmavati.

On this auspicious occasion, Lord Srinivasa gifts his consort with an expensive sari, holy Tulasi and Turmeric leaves along with other food offerings.

There is another goddess in Jainism who goes by the same name. This goddess is believed to be the serpent goddess who is generally worshiped with Yaksha Dharanendra and Parshwanatha.

Along with her spouse named Dharanendra, she is depicted as the protecting deity (Shashan Yakshi) of the 23rd Jain Tirthankara called Parshwanatha.

She is usually shown seated on a lotus throne with the serpent hood over her head and often a small image of Parshwanatha is placed in her crown.
