1 Kottiyoor Temple in Kannur district of Kerala is an ancient Hindu pilgrim centre dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

2 The temple is known by many names like Ikkare Kottiyoor, Thruchherumana Kshetram or Vadakkeshwaram Temple.

3 There are two popular temples on the banks of the Bavali river - Akkare Kottiyoor and Ikkare Kottiyoor.

4 Located on the splendid hill range of Sahya Valley, the Kottiyoor Temple is blessed with the exquisite views because of the dense greenery and River Bavali.

5 In Kerala, Kottiyoor Temple is credited as a prominent Shiva and Shakti temple.

6 The raised platform adjacent to the Swayambhu linga of this temple, which is believed to be at the exact spot where Daksha Yagna was performed.

7 The famous legend related to this Daksha Yagna states that Devi Sati immolated her mortal body here hence this place is also considered as the origin of the Shakti Peethas.

8 It is believed that Lord Brahma himself had worshiped Lord Shiva to pacify and console him for the loss of Sati.
