Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is expected to present the interim budget 2019 on February 1. This will be the final budget by the Narendra Modi led NDA government ahead of the general election. An interim budget is presented by a government in its last year in office when general elections are due after the start of a fiscal year. It has full estimates of both revenue and expenditure and can contain policy measures. This interim budget may outline the Modi government’s five-year vision if the NDA returns to power after 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Some analysts are predicting that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley may adopt a populist tone in the budget to please all sections of society in a poll year.
