A nine-year-old pig weighing in at over 900kg (2,000lbs) has been crowned “pig king” in China to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year. The pig, from Renshou County in Meishan City in the southwestern province of Sichuan, will escape slaughter. The pig’s owner says that after it dies naturally, the body will be donated to the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences for research. Celebrations for the Year of the Pig begin on February 5, 2019.
