Former US Marine Paul Whelan is currently being held in Russia on espionage charges.
Russian authorities claim Whelan, who is being held in Lefortovo Prison, was working as a spy.
According to Business Insider, the 48-year-old is a citizen of at least four different countries.
He was discharged from the Marine Corps for bad conduct.
He tried to steal over $10,000 from the US government, and also wrote bad checks for around $6,000.
