Indian opener Mayank Agarwal created history during the Boxing Day Test match against Australia as he registered the highest-ever score by an Indian batsman on debut on the Australian soil. The right-handed batsman went past the record of Dattu Phadkar, who had played an innings of 51 on his debut in Australia in the year 1947. Hrishikesh Kanitkar (45) and Abid Ali (33) come next on the list. Agarwal broke a 71-year-old record in the iconic Test.

मेलबर्न में अपने डेब्यू टेस्ट की पहली इनिंग में मयंक ने 161 गेंदों का सामना किया और 76 रन बनाए. इस दौरान उनके बल्ले से 8 चौके और 1 छक्का निकला, टेस्ट क्रिकेट की डेब्यू इनिंग में मयंक शतक से बेशक चूक गए लेकिन 76 रन बनाकर भी उन्होंने कई रिकॉर्ड अपने नाम कर लिये. ऑस्ट्रेलिया में डेब्यू टेस्ट में अर्धशतक जमाने वाले वो दातू फाडकर के बाद दूसरे भारतीय बल्लेबाज बने. फाडकर ने दिसंबर 1947 में खेले सिडनी टेस्ट में 51 रन बनाए थे. मयंक अग्रवाल 5वें भारतीय ओपनर हैं जिन्होंने घर से बाहर अपने टेस्ट डेब्यू पर अर्धशतक जमाया.
