Ashes to ashes is the follow up series to Life on Mars which saw Sam Tyler(Jeremy Simms) finding himself back in 1973 after being hit by a car. Being a by the book modern day detective it is a bit of a shock to the system to find himself having to follow the politically incorrect Jean Hunts (Phillip Glenister) policing methods that are like an episode of the Sweeney.
Alex Drake (Keeley Hawes) works in police psychology analysis in Sam Tylers real time period 2007 and has analysed Sams amazing story of going back to 1973. Alex is shot and like Sam finds herself alive in a different time period (1981) Like Sam she has been attached to Jean Hunts bumbling unit who have moved on from their original A division to a new precinct.
The music in the series corresponds to the time periods. The music in this clip is from 1981 (same old scene - roxy music and is from the opening episode as is the video clip.
Interesting to see the characters George & Zippy from the children's program Rainbow of this era make an appearance in the first episode also.
