Angus McOg è nato come alter ego di Antonio Tavoni, Modenese doc. Il progetto ha fatto i suoi primi passi nel 2009, mentre soggiornava a casa di un amico a Sydney. Tornato in Italia, il primo album Anorak è uscito nel 2011, seguito da Arnaut nel 2013. Durante questo periodo, Angus McOg ha suonato in Italia, Francia, Regno Unito, suonando in una sessione live per NTS Radio. Nel 2013 Antonio ha composto la musica per il film indipendente del regista Stefano Cattini Aishiteru My Love. L'anno seguente è stato invitato ad aprire gli spettacoli italiani nel tour The Best Day di Thurston Moore. Unendo le forze con il polistrumentista Di Mira, la coppia ha composto una colonna sonora originale per Regen, il corto del 1929 del documentarista olandese Joris Ivens. Hanno quindi iniziato a lavorare insieme su un nuovo materiale, combinando l'attitudine folk-rock di Angus McOg con una gamma più ampia di influenze e orchestrazioni. Questo ha posto le basi per "Beginners".
ngus McOg began as the alter ego for Antonio Tavoni, from Modena, Italy. The project took its first steps back in 2009, while staying at a friend’s place in Sydney. Back in Italy, the first album Anorak was released in 2011, followed by Arnaut in 2013. During this time, Angus McOg played gigs in Italy, France, the UK – performing a live session for NTS Radio – and the US, travelling alone or as a trio. In 2013 Antonio composed the music for independent director Stefano Cattini’s movie Aishiteru My Love. The following year he was invited to open the Italian shows on Thurston Moore’s The Best Day tour. Joining forces with multi-instrumentalist Di Mira, the pair composed an original score to Regen, the 1929 short by Dutch documentary-maker Joris Ivens. They then began working together on new material, combining Angus McOg’s folk-with-a-rock-attitude with a wider array of influences and orchestrations. This laid the foundations for Beginners.
