Rafael Nadal was born in Spain, in 1986. He started playing tennis when he was 3 years old. His uncle, Toni Nadal, an ex-professional tennisman is his coach since his younger age.
At 12 years old, he started winning Spanish championships, and European tennis titles.
When he was 17, he became the youngest man to reach the third round at Wimbledon. The first time he competed in the French Open, he won at 19 years old. In 2008, he won his first Wimbledon. He played against Roger Federer in the longest final of Wimbledon history.
Right after this victory he became the #1 tennis player in the world. Once he won the US open in 2010, he became the second player to achieve the Golden Slam (by winning all four major tournaments and the Olympic Games).
Also in 2010 he was the captain of the Spanish team in the Davis Cup, and led the team to win four times. With all his achievements, he's been nicknamed the "King of Clay", as he masters clay. His heart is taken since 2005 by Maria 'Xisca' Perelló. She's the project director of the Rafael Nadal Foundation.
