"Katha Kaha So Kathak"- a story teller - who would go from town to town, village narrating and dancing verses about the Gods and Goddesses. The origin of this dance form dates back to the 17th century when it was practiced in the temple. With the advent of Muslim rule kathak slowly moved from the temple to the court acquiring along its way.
Madhumita Roy is a well-known name in Kathak dance field. A senior student of Kathak maestro Pt. Birju Maharaj, Madhumita has performed almost all over in India as well as abroad. she is top grade artist of Doordarshan. Her Choreographic works have been applauded by the audience and the news critics as well. She is the director of her institution "GHUNGROO"
