Sabyasachi Deb's poem "Krishna" ( another name for Draupadi) is a dramatic monologue. Draupadi addresses the Kuru elders and her shamed husband soon after Yudhisthir has lost her to the Kauravs in the game of dice. Her husbands and the Kuru elders have been mute witnesses to her humiliation, pain and suffering. She speaks for all women when she refers to them as mere playthings to satisfy the male lust throughout the centuries. However through it all she retains her pride and dignity, refuses to surrender her self -respect and re-affirms her womanhood.
