BABU originally first appeared in the second verse of ‘The Hyperium Suite’ song ‘Hey You’.
The delicate nature of the subject, regardless of the extra stupid concept of ‘cultural appropriation’ which had not yet plagued our collective mind, was quite enough for any self-respecting artist to ponder intelligently before coming up with the best representation possible. A piece of work we are still very proud to this day.
The song itself was a breather in the frantic pace of the 16 minutes of The Hyperium Suite. Initially sung with great taste, commitment by Serge ; this new version tremendously interpreted by Johanne Desforges is , to my knowledge, one of the only songs to address the subject head on.
Music : Serge Laporte
Lyrics : Marc Laperle
