‘Last Emperor’ director Bertolucci dies

The Italian filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci died at age 77 on November 26. He won nine Academy Awards for his 1987 film The Last Emperor, including the first and the only Best Picture won by an Italian. Bertolucci started making movies when he was only 21, his Last Tango in Paris (1972) pushed boundaries with one of the “most shameful sex scenes” in film history. He continued working even after a 2003 surgery left him wheelchair-bound, and created his final movie Me and You in 2012.
