2017 River Campaign - New Swim Below the Weir - An Unassuming Start - 31/8/17 (Video 35)

After giving the "Barbel swim" rather a hammering for a few weeks I decided it would be a good idea to find another swim so we could still fish the same stretch whilst resting the original area.
Having walked the stretch many times (it runs for over 1.25 miles) I knew there were some good looking spots further downstream which had little fishing pressure. Access to this stretch is by foot from the end nearest my house or a very convoluted off-road car route to a car park which gives access to the lower part of the stretch, but is still a considerable walk even from there. Hence the middle and lower reaches see few anglers.
Having fished the lower stretch last year I knew that the fishing was good for chub and bream but I decided I would prefer to stay as close to the weir end as possible in the hope of still having a good chance of barbel.
I decided on a spot where the river widens and there is a snag-lined, slack-water bay on the opposite bank with fast water to the inside. Not the easiest fishing but I figured that there was a good chance that fish would be holding-up out of the current and there would even be a chance of an elusive Warwickshire Avon carp.
I settled in and was treated to the sight of a lot of fish showing, rolling and splashing.
