Will Narendra Modi get benefits from Owaisi Vs Rahul Gandhi War? The X Factor

It is election season in India and political wars are hotting up by the day. But today an unlikely political war erupted between the Congress and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi while addressing a rally in Telangana which goes to polls on December 7. Owaisi made a sensational claim, he said the Congress had offered him a 25 lakh rupee bribe to cancel a rally in the state and not to campaign in Muslim dominated areas. The three-time Parliamentarian from Hyderabad even claimed that he had an audio recording to prove his charge. He added that he was not for sale and that the bribe offer reflected the Grand Old Party’s arrogance. The Congress hit back calling Owaisi a BJP agent while rubbishing his allegations. In fact not too long ago Rahul Gandhi had alleged that the BJP, the TRS and Owaisi were hand in glove. Interestingly, Owaisi whose own party’s influence is confined only to the old city in Hyderabad has been campaigning for the ruling party. The TRS which in turn has refused to join the opposition parties’ anti-BJP bloc. However the question is why this bitterness between the Congress and Owaisi and why now? Does this have anything to do with the soft Hinduta approach which the Congress is often accused of these days? Is there any substance in the Congress’ allegation that Owaisi, the TRS and the BJP are working in tandem? If Owaisi’s allegations are indeed correct and backed by evidence why doesn’t he approach the Election Commission? If the charges are proven can we expect the poll panel to take any stern action given its limited powers which often lead to it being dubbed a toothless tiger? Also are elections is India now all about political mudslinging with little or no focus on the real issues of development that actually affect the common citizens of this country?
