New York Times Reporter Fires Back After Trump Blasts ‘Phony’ Pence Story

President Trump on Saturday slammed the New York Times over its story on Mike Pence.
A New York Times reporter has fired back at President Trump after he claimed her recent piece about him and Vice President Mike Pence was "phony."
Maggie Haberman tweeted Saturday: "FACT CHECK: Emailed with @PressSec and spoke with first deputy Hogan Gidley, who is quoted. POTUS would need to talk to them about why they didn't provide us with a quote from him."
This was a direct response to Trump's tweet earlier in the day.
"The New York Times did a phony story, as usual, about my relationship with @VP Mike Pence. They made up sources and refused to ask me, the only one that would know, for a quote," Trump wrote.
The president added in a subsequent post: "I can't imagine any President having a better or closer relationship with their Vice President then the two of us. Just more FAKE NEWS, the Enemy of the People!"
Trump was referring to a Times story Haberman co-wrote which claims he had been asking those close to him if Pence was loyal.
The piece notes: "Mr. Trump has repeated the question so many times that he has alarmed some of his advisers. The president has not openly suggested dropping Mr. Pence from the ticket and picking another running mate, but the advisers say those kinds of questions usually indicate that he has grown irritated with someone."
It also includes a quote from Gidley.
"The president absolutely supports the vice president and thinks he's doing an incredible job helping to carry out the mission and policies of this administration," Gidley stated.
Trump affirmed his belief in Pence on Saturday, telling reporters, "No, I don't question his loyalty at all. He is 100% loyal. It was a phony story."
