53% of Americans disapprove of President Trump's job performance

Only one place to start today, and that's the 2018 midterm elections in the U.S.
Normally these midterms, which come halfway through a president's four-year term, are not considered as big as the presidential election, but some pundits say this election is attracting so much interest as it is being seen as a referendum on President Trump.
Our Cha Sang-mi joins me in the studio to tell us what we know so far.
We must stress that Americans are still casting ballots in some states, but some polls have closed.
That said there's still plenty of talk about so Sangmi, welcome to our studio.

Good to be here again.

So, are the polls closing? What do we know so far?

Mark, the first polls closed at 6 p.m. local time, that's just about two hours ago... in Indiana and Kentucky. And polls closed in six other key states just half an hour ago, including Virginia, Florida and Georgia.
Back to the state of Indiana... which is one of the closely watched states.
Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly is being challenged by businessman Mike Braun in a tight race, in a state where Trump won by 20 percentage points back in 2016.
And just around now, we are standing by for the polls closing in some 23 more states, mainly along the east coast, but also including Texas, Tennessee, and Michigan.
In preliminary results so far, from the national exit poll provided by the RCP we know that nearly 44 percent of voters approve of President Trump's job performance, while 54 percent disapprove.

The polls opened at 5 a.m. local time in Vermont and other states... and voters are still casting their ballots in the West coast.

The polls will close at around 6 to 9 p.m., according to each states and we will start getting the results in the next few hours.
