South Korea's suicide rate was the highest in the OECD in 2016,... despite steadily decreasing since 2010.
According to a report released on Monday by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Health Insurance Service,... there were 25-point-8 suicides for every 100-thousand people in Korea in 2016,... which is much higher than the OECD average of 11-point-6.
Experts attribute the high suicide rate to not only psychological illnesses,... but also to income inequality compared to other developed nations,... and a low level of social integration.
Following Korea were Latvia and Slovenia with 18-point-1 suicides per 100-thousand people,... and Japan with 16-point-6.
Turkey had the lowest suicide rate with 2-point-1 deaths.
