This video shows a big bull rhino relieving an itch on his butt, much to the amusement of onlookers on the safari.
Filmed in Kruger National Park, the clip captures the rhino rubbing his bum against the wallow, and then lying down in the mud and rolling around.
White rhinos are fond of playing in the mud to help them cope with excessive summer heat conditions, a layer of mud helping to prevent sunburn and adding moisture close to the skin to help them keep cool. Once dried, the mud also acts as a parasite removing wax treatment that the rhino will rub off their skin against a tree or rock or any hard surface with the right height, as demonstrated in the video.
Once done, the rhino is seen letting go of three powerful sprays of urine to mark his territory.
