After exceptional performance in Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, sprinter Sarita Gayakwad received a grand welcome in her village in Ahwa of Gujarat’s Dang.
She said, 'I feel great because I am coming back to my village after an year. I was away for a very long time. I had to stay away from my parents as well. I am willing to be able to do anything for my country. When I came here everyone welcomed me and that made me very happy.'
Gayakwad won gold medal in women’s 4x400m relay race. She ran barefoot at the Asian Games 2018 and became the first woman athlete from Gujarat to win Asian Games gold for India. She was part of team of Hima Das, VK Bismaya and MR Poovamma.
