Ruling Democratic Party of Korea to elect new chair on Saturday
- 6 years ago
The ruling Democratic Party of Korea is holding a national convention, as we speak, to elect its new chair.
The results were expected by around 6PM,... Korea time,... but the convention is running a bit behind schedule and the ballots are still being counted.
It's a three-way race between seven-term lawmaker Lee Hae-chan... and four-term lawmakers Kim Jin-pyo and Song Young-gil.
Lee -- who is the favorite to win -- served as prime minister between 2004 and 2006,... Kim was a former finance chief,... and Song once served as the mayor of Incheon.
The winner will replace Choo Mi-ae,... and take the helm for the next two years.
He will be tasked with building relations with the opposition bloc to get the Moon administration's policies agendas rolling.
