Who is Andrew Wheeler? Narrated by Morgan Evans

 

Andrew Wheeler is the current acting head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Wheeler is replacing Scott Pruitt, and as far as we know, doesn’t have the same propensity for expensive fountain pens and Chick-fil-A. Unfortunately, he does share Pruitt’s fervor for undoing environmental regulations — and is looking to pick up right where he left off.

Wheeler was born in Hamilton, Ohio, and later when on to graduate from Case Western Reserve University in 1987. He attended Washington University in St. Louis and arrived to Washington in 1991. We began working for the George H. W. Bush administration at the EPA, then later moved to Capitol Hill to work as an aide for adamant climate change denier Jim Inhofe. In 2009 he became a lobbyist with Faegre, Baker, Daniels which represented Murray Energy, one of the nation’s largest coal companies.

In the past, Wheeler has called Trump a “bully with more baggage then [sic] all of the other Republican candidates combined,” but was later sworn in to his administration anyway as Deputy Administrator for the EPA.

Then, on July 19, 2018, Wheeler became the acting administrator for the EPA, effectively replacing Scott Pruitt. His first major rollback came after he finalized a rule which allows power plants to offload toxic coal ash in ways that could pollute groundwater. He also says he plans to carry out Pruitt’s agenda during his time with the agency.
